Tribute to guitar virtuoso Harry Sacksioni - Exclusively in Carré

On Tuesday 19th of October the versatility of guitar virtuoso and composer Harry Sacksioni will find expression in the Royal Theatre Carré. This special evening is a tribute to the all-round musician who is in more than one discipline of great importance to the Dutch(guitar)music world.
Acquaintances and colleagues of Sacksioni, who played (or still do)a part in his impressive carrier, will put in an appearance like Herman van Veen, Raymond van het Groenewoud, Eric Vaarzon Morel en Liesbeth List. A selection of famous artists will sing and play compositions of Sackioni.
Harry Sacksioni is a source of inspiration to many guitarists. That is why, besides friends and colleagues from the past, also young talents will pay their respects this evening. Very special this evening is that the Ballet group Introdans will perform a part from “Piste” for which Harry composed the music .
The programme will be presented by reporter Jack van Gelder who once was the drummer in Harry’s first band.

Guitar virtuoso Harry Sacksioni releases a new CD: ADRENALINE!
On the latest CD “Adrenaline” of acoustic guitar phenomenon Harry Sacksioni are thirteen new compositions of which twelve are composed by Harry himself.
Harry plays nine compositions solo and four compositions together with a guest musician. Wim Den Herder, one of the greatest young guitar talents of this moment for instance, plays a fantastic improvisation during the composition “Amsterdam Arena”, a song once written for the AJAX bastion opening. Flamenco guitarist Eric Vaarzon Morel also was invited by Harry and performs his whip up Spanish rhythm in the composition “Torredembarra”. The African musician Zou Diarra plays his self made Kora in the dancing composition “Zoumana” and the “silent force” Digmon Roovers plays the slide guitar in the moody song “Uitgespeeld”.
In the opening song “Stoute Schoenen” Harry proves his reputation of being a guitarist who plays a whole band on his own. The groove in this swinging song is the uninterrupted bass line over which Sacksioni plays the melody and chords at the same time.
On his CD “Adrenaline” Harry continues his tradition of playing one composition of someone else on every CD. This time it is the composition of singer Freddie Mercury: “Killer Queen”. On YouTube there is a live performance of this touching and convincing version and it is highly appreciated. Besides different kinds of acoustic guitars Sacksioni also plays the Tiple (a 12-strings South American instrument) in the brilliant title composition “Adrenaline” and the Dobro (metal guitar) in his ragtime composition “Free At Last”.
The sources of inspiration for all his compositions are very different and mainly very personal like his fear of flying in the great and tuneful composition “Geland”; Spain (“Torredembarra”); Africa (“Zoumana”); Obama as first black President (“Free At Last”); The Italian Landscape (“Borgo Migliorini”); his cat (“De Kattendans”); a shop lifter (!) (“ De Kleptomane”) and his own “live drive” “My Engine is running”.
Modest compositions, Whip up rhythms and virtuosity are the ingredients on “Adrenaline” whereby Harry Sacksioni knows how to pass on an impressive musical story.
From the 10th of February 2010 his solo tour “Adrenaline” starts in all Dutch theatres.
Because of his contribution to the Musical World and Young guitarists in particular Harry Sacksioni has been awarded the royal knighthood. (Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau)

The Sacksioni Method
![]()
40 years of experience and master ship are written down in his unique finger style guitar method. In this method Sacksioni shows all his techniques starting with the basics. In almost 400 pages he finally leads you to his most advanced techniques from a great number of his compositions and rewrites, including his fabulous rewrite “I Wish”of Stevie Wonder.
Every part of his compositions will be dissolved in detail and is the material for the development of advanced play techniques and disciplines.
More than 500 items to practise and 12 complete compositions are written down in notation, tablature and chords diagrams, and can be found in detail on the enclosed DVD, on which Harry himself explains and shows every detail. Therefore this method is particular suitable as well for starting as advanced guitarist. During the lessons you will find useful and very personal tips, including photographs about various items that are related directly and indirectly with playing the guitar.
Succes
In the meantime the success of the Sacksioni Method is overwhelming. The first edition was sold out in a very short time. One is preparing the fourth edition at the moment.
Harry is awfully bucked with it : ‘Now this is happening I realize how great the desire among guitarists is to learn to play finger style. In the first instance it was not my intention to write a complete method. I am glad however that I kept on writing for the last 8 years. Many guitar schools went into my Method. During the workshops at schools I experience the eagerness of the pupils whether the are 14 or 40 years of age. I am sure that within a number of years we will have many good finger style guitarists.!’

The Sacksioni Method can be ordered at webshop. Music stores, music schools and music academies are asked to contact Katowee Holland contact for information or orders.

Harry Sacksioni and Eric Vaarzon Morel will give a guitar clinic together in the Southern part of France!
Due to the great success in 2009 Harry Sacksioni (finger style) and Eric Vaarzon Morel (flamenco) will also give this year a guitar clinic in La Roque sur Cèze, near Avignon, in the Southern part of France. This event will take place from the 3rd of may until the 9th of May. This event will be organised by the guitar school of Peter van Elswijk. The home base for this clinic will be the camping site ‘La Vallee Verte”. This luxurious camping site is fitted with all conveniences, good meals, drinks and Dutch employees. Especially the wonderful scenery is very a suitable and an inspiring location to play the guitar in a different way.
For six days all the pupils will get lessons on the most beautiful spots of the Southern part of France. A reasonable to good level is required. As far as the flamenco part concerns, it is mainly how to learn to play the special techniques and different very difficult rhythms. So enjoying culture and art. The lessons will take place in vineyards but also in Corneillon, al little village near the camping site. Corneillon is on the top of a mountain and is provided with a stage and a tribune of stone. It is a magnificent and pleasant place to play with the masters.
Grand tribute to Harry in Belgium
The next four months the keynote of the Belgium music schools is the music of Harry Sacksioni. Workshops, master classes, and a real Sacksioni competition with a performance together with Harry as first prize! ‘Harry Sacksioni 60’`Harry Sacksioni 60` consists of 4 events about the living guitar legend Harry Sacksioni during the months February until May 2010.
The Belgium guitarist Jan Depreter and Rudi Ronzani are the initiators and organizers of the tribute to Harry weeks, because Sacksioni becomes 60 years of age and they thought this was an important moment to highlight the meaning of Harry’s music to the music world in general and to Flanders in particular.
On the 27th and 28th of February Harry himself gives a finger style Master class in the Winter Garden of the Ursuline Institution in Onze –Lieve- Vrouw- Waver (near Mechlin ). The apotheosis takes place on Sunday the 16th of May in the Singel in Antwerp where a grand tribute concert will take place. Before the break a number of secret prominent people will play Harry’s music in this glittering auditorium. Harry will perform after the break. He will play a very special version of “Vensters” arranged by Jan Depreter.
To Harry this will be a very special ending because his very first performance of ‘Vensters” was in 1975 in Antwerp (Elisabeth auditorium) together with the National Orchestra of Flanders.
Four guitar phenomena in the Concert hall
The 12th of February was a great evening. Four guitar phenomena where together on stage in the Concert hall of Amsterdam. Master guitarist Harry Sacksioni was on stage together with two young budding guitar talents. The Dutch Lars de Rijck and the Australian Joe Robinson. Beside them was the French Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan on stage. In 2008 the Guitar Player Magazine proclaimed him Best World Music Guitar Player.
Harry Sacksionistarted the evening with a number of brilliant compositions of his latest CD and theatre programme “Adrenaline” alternated with old compositions. Like his rewrite of Killer Queen, Stoute Schoenen, Zoumana en the title song Adrenaline on the four stringed tipple. His composition Geland was great in the acoustics of the hall. Harry was in such a great form that he even supplied the improvised middle part of the old composition Anji of many new impulses.
Lars de Rijck already had been on stage together with Harry duringCity! Talents Tour. After this performance he created a furore on the Dutch Television by ending up in the finals of the show Holland’s got Talent. In the Concert hall he showed everybody why.
 Walter Goyen - Concertgebouw 100212 - 011 (Small).jpg)
In Australia Joe Robinson won a similar talent contest on television. The winner of Australia’s got talent fascinated the audience with his enormous technical talent. Actually he is a follower of his fellow countryman Tommy Emmanuel, but Joe knows to add something extra to his play at his young age.
After the break Pierre Bensusan changed the sphere completely. This talented guitarist played compositions of great harmony with sweet but also exciting sounds of global music. He also is a real composer with his own ideas and his own sphere.
During the last compositions the different styles of the guitarists came together in a number of compositions of Harry. At first a duet of Joe and Harry. The perfect blues improvisation of Joe showed to full advantage during the swinging version of Doris ‘day. After this Lars and Pierre joined in and Harry started to play Brasilian Affair .All four of them played this composition to an ecstatic end.
The audience of 1400 people did not want the show to end and the four guitarists came back on stage to play together with Harry. They played his most melancholic and stilly compositionUitgespeeld and they put an end to the evening this way
It became quiet again in Amsterdam…

Only famous during daytime - My master class with Mike
At the end of November a producer of the television programme `Knoop in je zakdoek` approached me. It is the only television programme in the world that is made for and partly by people with a mental disability. He asked me if I was interested in doing a master class on television. The intension was to make a master class series of 8 parts. In every part a different famous musician would take charge of a mentally disabled persons with an exceptional talent. Besides me, Rowwen Heze, Xander de Buisonjé, Slagerij van Kampen, Cor Bakker en Nick & Simon would be invited. It seemed to me not only a great idea as well as a challenge. The editors already had done some prework and send me a number of films about three mentally disabled boys who showed their guitar skills. It was up to me to chose one of them. Read more…

In the celebration of his 40-year anniversary as performing artist master guitarist Harry Sacksioni has issued a special edition with the title ‘Tijdgeest’ (time spirit). It is a triptych consisting of the CD Tijdgeest (Time Spirit), the DVD Heart Labour and the anecdote book Dat kunnen ze allemáál wel zeggen (‘That’s what they all say’). Read more…
Harry Sacksioni and Jan Akkerman in DWDD!
On Tuesday the 8th of December Harry was a guest in the television programme De Wereld Draait Door. In this programme he had a ‘battle’ with the most famous Dutch electric guitar specialist Jan Akkerman. Harry played Doris’ day, The killy killy song en Adrenaline on the tiple. The contest ended in a ex aequo.

Ramses

Guitar Experience: Picture & Sound of Harry Sacksioni
The Sacksioni method is an enormous success. At the moment you can find the clever finger style guitar lessons of Harry all over the world. On many continents they play the guitar the Sacksioni way already.

Saturday the 31th of October Harry showed his unique guitar method in the beautiful ambiance of the Dutch Institution for Picture & Sound at the Media Grounds Hilversum, during the 10th edition of the national guitar event.
Harry Sacksioni contributes a little with his Sacksioni Method on this small jubilee party. He also signed the Sacksioni Method and the recently released Time Spirit.
Programme
The presentation was part of a pretty musical programme with top guitarists such as Three Of A Kind with Jan Kuiper, Stochelo Rosenberg and Zoumana Diarra, Johan Jansen, René van Barneveld and Patrick van Gerven with the band Cash On Delivery. Also the qualifying round of the Dutch Guitar Awards was held, a guitar competition for young talents until the age of 21 years.
Also journalists want a master class from Harry Sacksioni
It cannot be a coincidence. The Sacksioni Method stirs up a lot: Harry was asked to give a master class twice in one week. Two journalists from an entirely different angle wanted a personal master class. Their findings are published in the magazines they write for.
Journalist Alrik de Jong under went a full hour finger style instructions from Harry. He never ever played the guitar in this way before but because of his enthusiasm he was quick at his lessons. You can read his story in the October edition of - believe it or not - Playboy!

Peter Bogers from the Eindhoven’s Dagblad also had a one hour lesson from Harry. Peter plays the guitar for years already but always uses a guitar pick. Because he performs more and more with his brother Bertus Bogers (a famous saxophonist) he thought it would be fantastic to develop his technique by learning the finger style basics.
You can read about his experience in the Eindhoven’s Dagblad from Monday the 5th of October 2009.
A memorable evening…
It gave me quite a turn when someone from the audience interrupted me during my performance on Saturday the 9th of May in theatre Agnietenhof in Tiel. I was telling the story about Queen Beatrice’ little dance which she suddenly did in the middle of an official opening during my performance of “Anji”.
I just had made the notabilities, council members and mayors, who where my audience during that opening, slightly ridiculous because - no matter how I worked myself into a sweat - they all gave me just a minimal applause. Trough my story an angry voice said: “BUT SIR SACKSIONI, YOU CAN’T DO THAT! YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT THE QUEEN AND THE MAYORS IN THIS WAY!
I hold my tongue because I got a fright. Sometimes I say things on stage that are on the edge of what people think is acceptable or not. This time I was sure I really had offend somebody. I tried to look into the audience to see who was so furious and saw on the edge of the room that a silhouette was approaching me. Suddenly I saw the shine of a chain of office around this person’ shoulders. He came on stage and because he came into the spotlights, I recognised Drs.Tammes the mayor of the region I live in. I started to smell a rat……He turned to the audience and said: “I know it is a cardinal sin to interrupt an artist in the middle of his performance but I have a good reason to do so. Her Majesty Queen Beatrice took delight in…” And then it became clear to me. I found myself to be a Knight (in the order of Orange-Nassau) I listened to his words and the motivation why I was honoured. I became emotional. Especially when the mayor pinned on the ribbon and my girlfriend and our children also came on stage. They already knew for a while this was going to happen. Even my parents (87 and 85 years old) had come all the way from Amsterdam to Tiel. After the performance, there was a private party in the bar of the Agnietenhof. Many good friends turned out to be here and we did not go home until late in the evening. The days after I was overwhelmed with the most fine words and congratulations. Also on this web site, many people wrote fine words in the guest book. A few people I already have thanked in person. The amount of congratulations is so enormous that I am not able to thank everyone in person. Sorry I have to do it this way. I would like to thank everyone, who wrote me, e-mailed me or have contacted me in any other way for all the heart-warming words. I see this award as a reward in my lifelong struggle to get the instrumental music, especially the guitar, in The Netherlands and far across the borders to a higher level. As well as the award as the many responses, give me the drive to continue the course I started long ago. From my situation, I hope to continue to encourage especially young guitarists to blossom.
Harry Sacksioni royally awarded!
Master guitarist Harry Sacksioni has been awarded the royal knighthood during his jubilee concert in theater Agnietenhof in Tiel. By pinning on the royal ribbon K.C. Tammes – mayor of Buren – decorated the guitarist as a knight in the royal order of Oranje Nassau.
Sacksioni received the decoration for his 40-year jubilee as guitarist and for the recently published book ‘the Sacksioni Method’. His unique fingerstyle method and unremitting enthusiasm have brought him on various stages in The Netherlands and abroad. In 1994 he was awarded an Edison for his CD Who’s pulling the string. Since Saturday, he can also add the royal knighthood to his name.
In his career Sacksioni has released 25 CDs and LPs and wrote compositions for e.g. Herman van Veen and Frank Boeijen. Moreover, he also connected his name to various projects such as ‘The Five Great Guitars’ and the CITY! Project. In ‘The Sacksioni Method’ Sacksioni explains in almost 400 pages and a DVD the techniques to forms band on a single guitar by playing multiple parts simultaneously. Currently, Sacksioni plays Dutch theaters with his jubilee tour ‘The Sacksioni Method’.
Misunderstanding
The reporting the ANP (Dutch press agency) has sent out to all media concerning Harry Sacksioni’s Royal Award contains a small misunderstanding. The sentence that contains this error has the following content: ‘Worldwide, only three guitarists master this technique.’ (i.e. playing bass line, chords and melody simultaneously on a single guitar.) This sentence is likely to have been quoted from the interview with Matthijs van Nieuwkerk in his TV program ‘De Wereld draait door’ last year, and has already led to discussions. Harry would hereby like to emphasize that a very large number of guitarists around the world master this technique.
Harry & Mike
Veenendaal 13 May 2009 – In the last 40 years Harry has been on stage with numerous artists. Last season, a number of young talents have accompanied him during the City! Talent Tour. On the 13th of May, Harry was accompanied by Mike during the last song of the program.
In this case this was even more special since Mike has a mental disability. Despite this, Mike is a real guitar talent. The Teleac program “Knoop in je zakdoek” selected him for a TV series about mentally disabled persons with an exceptional talent. This programme gave him the opportunity to follow a two-days master class with a famous Dutch artist. As Mike plays the guitar obviously he had his master class with Harry. Read more…
